About the Event

RO DBT Overview- 1 hour

Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT) is a specialized treatment approach designed to address the challenges associated with over-control, which can manifest as rigidity, perfectionism, and extreme anxiety. These traits often hinder clients from engaging deeply in their personal growth and relationships. RO DBT aims to foster flexibility and openness, essential for creating meaningful connections and a fulfilling life.

Key Tenets of RO DBT:

  1. Radical Openness and Over-Control:
    • RO DBT emphasizes the importance of radical openness, which involves being open to new experiences, emotions, and perspectives. Over-control, on the other hand, refers to excessive self-control and inhibition that can lead to social isolation and emotional loneliness.

  2. Self-Enquiry:
    • Self-enquiry is a core practice in RO DBT, encouraging clients to reflect deeply on their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors without judgment. This process helps individuals develop self-awareness and identify patterns of over-control.

  3. Foundational Skills:
    • RO DBT introduces specific skills to help clients reduce over-controlled behaviors. These skills are applicable across various mental health conditions such as anxiety disorders, depression, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and eating disorders like anorexia nervosa.

Goals of RO DBT:

  • Decrease Over-Control:

By promoting flexibility and openness, RO DBT aims to reduce the rigid behaviors that contribute to isolation and hinder personal growth.

  • Enhance Emotional Connection:

Addressing emotional loneliness and helping clients reconnect with others in meaningful ways is a central goal of RO DBT.

  • Reduce Self-Judgment and Perfectionism:

RO DBT helps clients cultivate self-compassion and acceptance, counteracting tendencies toward harsh self-criticism and unrealistic expectations.

  • Manage Symptoms:

Through targeted skills and interventions, RO DBT supports individuals in managing symptoms associated with various mental health challenges, promoting overall well-being.

Workshop Objectives for Clinicians:

  • Introduction to RO DBT:

This basic overview provides clinicians with foundational knowledge about RO DBT's principles and its application in clinical practice.

  • Skill Development:

Clinicians learn about practical strategies to help clients implement radical openness, manage over-control, and foster healthier interpersonal relationships.

  • Use of Tools:

The RO DBT over-control assessment other therapeutic tools equip clinicians with structured methods to support clients in their therapeutic journey.

RO DBT offers a structured yet flexible approach to addressing over-control and promoting emotional connection and well-being. It equips clinicians with effective tools and skills to support clients in navigating challenges related to mental health and interpersonal relationships. About Our Presenter:
